Our collaboration with the National Health Service (NHS) involved the development and delivery of a percentage coding dashboard using Power BI within a bespoke NHS-branded template. This dashboard was designed to provide detailed insights into diagnosis and procedures, empowering NHS staff to optimize coding practices and improve overall efficiency in healthcare operations. Leveraging custom metrics and on-prem data, we worked closely with NHS employees to tailor the dashboard to their specific needs and requirements.
The dashboard featured patient-level drilling functionality, allowing clinical staff to pinpoint areas requiring attention and intervention, thereby facilitating targeted improvements in coding accuracy and completeness. Additionally, the dashboard offered various reporting options based on different parameters such as period, hospital site, Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), ward, specialty, and divisions, providing comprehensive detail to aid in monitoring and enhancing coding practices across the NHS network.
Throughout the development and implementation process, we encountered several challenges that needed to be addressed effectively. One significant challenge involved data quality (DQ) issues, which required thorough data cleansing and validation to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the insights provided by the dashboard. Additionally, building the patient-level drilling feature presented technical complexities, as it required integrating granular data points while maintaining performance and usability.
Moreover, catering to the diverse reporting needs of NHS stakeholders across different organizational levels and geographical regions demanded a flexible and scalable approach to dashboard design and customization. Overcoming these challenges necessitated close collaboration with NHS personnel, proactive problem-solving, and iterative refinement of the dashboard to meet the evolving requirements and expectations of our client.
The implementation of the percentage coding dashboard yielded significant positive outcomes for the NHS, enabling them to streamline coding processes and improve overall efficiency in healthcare operations. By leveraging the insights provided by the dashboard, NHS staff were able to identify and address DQ issues effectively, leading to enhanced accuracy and completeness in coding practices.
The patient-level drilling feature proved invaluable in enabling clinical staff to pinpoint specific areas for improvement, facilitating targeted interventions to resolve coding discrepancies and optimize reimbursement processes.
Moreover, the comprehensive reporting capabilities of the dashboard empowered NHS stakeholders to monitor coding performance across various dimensions, facilitating informed decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
Overall, the outcome was a testament to the effectiveness of the bespoke Power BI solution in driving positive change and efficiency gains within the NHS.
