Our collaboration with the National Health Service (NHS) involved the development and delivery of a percentage coding dashboard using Power BI within a bespoke NHS-branded template. This dashboard was designed to provide detailed insights into diagnosis and procedures, empowering NHS staff to optimize coding practices and improve overall efficiency in healthcare operations. Leveraging custom metrics and on-prem data, we worked closely with NHS employees to tailor the dashboard to their specific needs and requirements.
The dashboard featured patient-level drilling functionality, allowing clinical staff to pinpoint areas requiring attention and intervention, thereby facilitating targeted improvements in coding accuracy and completeness. Additionally, the dashboard offered various reporting options based on different parameters such as period, hospital site, Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), ward, specialty, and divisions, providing comprehensive detail to aid in monitoring and enhancing coding practices across the NHS network.
Challenges
Throughout the development and implementation process, we encountered several challenges that needed to be addressed effectively. One significant challenge involved data quality (DQ) issues, which required thorough data cleansing and validation to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the insights provided by the dashboard. Additionally, building the patient-level drilling feature presented technical complexities, as it required integrating granular data points while maintaining performance and usability.
Moreover, catering to the diverse reporting needs of NHS stakeholders across different organizational levels and geographical regions demanded a flexible and scalable approach to dashboard design and customization.
